What Is A Step-Thru Electric Bike?

Different from step-over bikes, there is no top tube on the frame of a step-through bike. Therefore, it allows people to get on and off the bike in an easy and convenient way.

Is The Ranger Step-Through Bike Good for Commuting?

Why not? The Ranger is convenient and comfortable to ride. Its battery could cover a common commute range. Its fat tire could handle all kinds of road conditions. And also, it is foldable as long as you need it.

Are Step-Through Bikes Heavier Than Step-Over Bikes?

A step-through bike may not be heavier than a step-through bike. How heavy is a bike depends on how the bike was designed. It does not depend on it is a step-through or a step-over bike.

Me and Ranger have been 1,500 miles now!

This could be very long but, I have had the Ranger since January 2024, it is not late august and I have rode the bike 1,537 MILES, that’s an average of about 7 miles per day.
First, this is my first and only e-bike, I have no comparable except a regular bike.

1: I have never got anywhere near 40-60 miles per charge, however, I’m almost always in top gear(3) it’s very fast! I usually can get about 20-25 miles in warm weather and 15-16 miles per charge in very cold weather (northern utah),
To get more miles, make sure
Your tires and brakes are set up perfectly and not rubbing against anything. Also, don’t pin down the throttle while pedaling. In the winter keep your battery inside where it’s warm and I wrap mine in an insulated Amazon mailer I turned into a battery blanket during the winter, it’s very cold here and it affects the battery range SIGNIFICANTLY!

2. If you are not a bike mechanic, you better find one, these things need constant attention. Brakes and the like will stretch in the beginning naturally and require constant tightening. Tires are great, couple flats, nothing major, I just barely replaced both tubes and the rear tire itself (1500 miles) rear tire is completely bald, front tire still just fine!

2. Problems I’ve had, the front light stoped working the first month, the LCD screen has some bright numbers and some are just dark, a lot of the time the speedometer does not work and then sometimes it just works, idk.
The kickstand is a pain, constantly comes loose and you gotta be careful, with both baskets installed this thing is too heavy and want to fall over bad, be careful parking it at first till you know.
Brakes and retailers require slot if adjusting and maintenance, especially if you’re folding your bike. When I got the bike the brakes were on there crooked to the rotors and it warped them af the r about 25 miles (I didn’t know),
If you plan to fold this bike and pop it in your trunk, think again. I’m 6’ 160lbs and fit, and it’s not easy, it’s akward and HEAVY! Also nothing holds the bike folded, it will unfold and smack you in terrible places, my shins and my chin have scars now which isn’t as bad as the scratches in my girls Subaru from trying to pick it
Up and put it in there. Don’t get me wrong it folds up smaller and does fit in a large trunk or any hatchback really, it’s just super heavy and way akward.
While I’m thinking about it, if your going to ride on the roads, you need to buy some mirrors and be careful, I’ve almost been hit and almost killed 3 times in 7 months, people don’t see bikes and you gotta keep your head on a swivel for sure. Also if you are gonna ride at night, get a safety colored vest and more lights, flashing ones, trust me!
Other cons are rear and front racks refuse to stay tight, this is a theme for my bike; lots of loose bolts all the time, I’m pretty sure how I like it now so gonna bathe it in locktite soon lol.
And lastly this bike is zero fun to pedal with no battery it’s 75 pounds plus racks and that I’m at about 90# bike, it SUCKS to pedal and will wear you out! Speaking of pedaling, you’ll want to focus on the throttle because the pedals kick in the motor and it is a jolt and will take you by surprise, just a 1/4-1/2 turn if the pedals will engage the motor at full power for the gear your in (1,2,3) this is how I crashed most times. The other times were potholes and steep/tall pavement transitions (anything over 2” should be traversed at no more than 70• angle, trust me 90• is better!

Pro’s!!!
I got a great looking bike that’s been 90% reliable, and I haven’t had to drive my truck almost all summer!

My top speed has been 32mph, my longest distance on 1 charge has been about 39 miles, my worst crash had me laid up a couple days. Get a helmet, get some lights and go have some fun! Word of warning, the bike at center frame is very low to the ground and not shaped like a traditional bike, it has a tendency to pick up sticks and stab them at your legs, never had this on a regular bike and it’s regular on this one, be mindful of this or you will get stitches. Last recommendation is to get a bike alarm ($35 Amazon) invaluable when commuting or traveling, if your bike is dirty or wet you won’t want to bring it inside wherever you are and the alarm is great for this. I also suggest a bike cover for if you get caught out in bad weather and to just keep the bike cool and your gear protected when out and about, takes only 39 seconds to drape a motorcycle type cover on it.

Be well, fish on! Your friend Marty

My new ride to work, deliveries and more.

I just got the Ranger, was excited. Off the chain. 25 mph. Done. 37 mph. Done. 15 miles so far no issues. Gonna check it out. Going out on night run. That light. Meant to get the Ranger S but this came with Front and back rack. I got saddle bags!!! Looking at the Explorer. Fast, intact, easy put together.

Our first E-Bikes! A pair of Rangers.

My wife and I purchased a pair of Rangers, black and white, while they were on sale as a set. We love them and they come with allot of very useful features. First and foremost, they fold and can fit in a 45 gallon tote for easy transport in our RV and her Honda Pilot. The second reason, is they are step-through, which allows easy access to the bike by my wife who is 5'3". We have been shopping for E-Bikes for some time now. My wife suffered a stroke back in 2003 and has not been on a bicycle of any kind since, until now, which brings us to our only issue. She's not tall enough to straddle the seat with her feet touching the ground. A huge fear for her. So we reached out to Heybike Support and they sent us a new saddle stem without the shock absorber to see if that would allow her to touch the ground while straddling the saddle. With the new stem installed, we noticed that it measures almost exactly the same distance as the one with the shock absorber, roughly 33.5 inches from the ground. The new stem came with the seat release in order to conveniently remove the battery. but we could not move the seat down any further because the release handle would rest on the battery. We appreciate the quick response from support for promptly sending us a stem to try! This shows the integrity of the company and we thank you for that! We will try to work around this issue as she gets more practice on the bike. Please check out our pics. The bikes and the company deserve 5 stars easily. we just need to work out the saddle stem issue.

So far so good

My husband and I purchased 2 rangers and so far the bikes are, as expected. A little heavy and slightly awkward when folded but definitely enjoying them. There were a few dings in each one from packaging and shipping, but customer service has been very responsive with trying to make this right. Rugged bikes that will get a lot of use.
